I'm a girl who loves my neutrals, and we can see how neutrals have taken over the fashion world. What's not to love? Neutrals are simple, versatile, and easy to style. And for me, someone who loves practicality and functionality, neutrals are an essential in my wardrobe. However, some days I am looking at my closet in the morning and wishing there was just a little more color.

So, how can we add some more color to our wardrobe? The better question – where do we start?

One of the tools that I have used that helps me explore more color is color analysis.

WHAT IS COLOR ANALYSIS?

If you're anything like me, you've been seeing the color analysis trend all over social media. Or, maybe you remember your mom "finding her colors" back in the day. Why is color analysis trending? Why does it actually matter what colors you wear?

Well, you came to the right place to learn! Here are a few benefits of color analysis for you to consider:

1. Color analysis helps you understand how God created you.

God is our wonderful Creator. Not only do we see this display through nature (the colors of the rainbow, the brilliant hues of flowers and trees, the design of animals), but we see His intricate details in the human body.

There is so much wonderful diversity found in human beings: skin colors, facial features, skeletal structure, and of course, personalities.

And yet, because one God created us all, there is a unique pattern – a recognizable theme found in our bodies.

Skin pigmentation (or coloring) is made up of the same pigments for all ethnicities, just in different quantities. The principles of skin color are very similar to the way color works in general. Do you remember learning about the color wheel in school? Red and blue make purple. Blue and yellow make green. The way color interacts with each other is a universal effect, and different combinations create more light or shadow, harmony or disharmony.

2. Color analysis helps you dress in clothes that complement your complexion.

Figuring out your best colors can help you dress in clothes that brighten up and smooth out your complexion all on their own, without the help of makeup!

The term seasons is used because we naturally associate certain colors with each season of the year. Think of pure white snow in the winter, deep orange leaves in the fall, brilliant green grass in the summer, or pastel blossoms in the spring. For each color season, there are subtypes like cool, soft or deep – and these tell you how vivid or muted the colors are in the season you should wear.

The illustrations below offer a brief visual of each season, but if you would like to learn more, you can book a color analysis to understand better the season you are in.

When you are able to analyze your skin tone and discover your color season, you will see a huge difference in how your skin reacts to the colors you're wearing.

You won't feel overpowered in colors that are too bright.

You won't feel like you're totally lost in colors that are too soft.

You won't have to worry about being washed out by certain colors.

CAN YOU STILL WEAR NEUTRALS?

I know, I know – if you're so used to wearing neutrals, it can be intimidating at first to think about introducing a lot more color.

The good news is – you don't need to get rid of all of your neutral pieces! They are great base pieces. But neutrals are rarely, if ever, anyone's "power colors". What does that mean? In color analysis, power colors are selected to enhance your natural features to the max and make you feel confident in them. They make you truly glow.

With color analysis, you can find the neutrals that work best for you! When you pair them with your power or accent colors, you'll be able to create a beautiful, cohesive wardrobe.

MYTHS ABOUT COLOR ANALYSIS

1. You can never wear any of your favorite colors again if they aren't in your color palette.

This isn't true! You can absolutely still wear what you like. Think of color analysis as a tool to help you invest in pieces that you know will look amazing on you, and take the guesswork out of buying new clothes.

2. Your season changes if you tan in the summer or if you go gray.

Since your season is based on your undertone (which doesn't change), a color analysis is a one-time investment that helps you choose your best colors no matter what stage of life you're in.

3. Everyone looks good in white or black.

Sadly, no. With white being the lightest of shades and black being the darkest, these shades don't work on every single skin tone. The level of contrast in your features will determine where you can pull off very light or very dark colors.
