What’s trending for spring 2025? The freshness of this season can leave us ready for a wardrobe refresh that matches the renewal that's happening outside. Each spring I look forward to packing away my heavy winter coats, scarves, and sweaters and bringing out clothes that are lighter, brighter, and more breathable as the weather warms up.

However, it’s not necessary or financially reasonable to redo our entire closet each year, let alone with each new season. So, what are some thoughtful ways to incorporate current fashion trends into your existing wardrobe– without breaking the bank – while staying true to your personal taste?

Personal style is not about following fads or hopping on the latest, most extreme fashions. As a brand, The Main Street Exchange strives to offer classic, simple styles that stand the test of time. But we also recognize that many women, ourselves included, enjoy experimenting with new styles from time to time. It can be fun! And it’s part of a process that we all go through: replacing clothes that have worn out or have simply run their course in our rotation of outfits. Eventually, we all have items of clothing that no longer fit us – our bodies, our taste, or our current lifestyle. When this happens, it can be enjoyable to add to our closet in a way that mixes current trends with timeless staples

With that in mind, what are some colors, patterns, and pieces to watch for this spring? How can you inject a burst of freshness  into your modest wardrobe?

Soft, feminine looks are continuing to trend across the marketplace. An updated take on the “boho chic” styles of the 2010s, some defining characteristics of this trend are lovely details. These include elements like embroidery, eyelet or lace, sheer flowy fabrics like chiffon and tulle, bows, ruffles, etc. Pretty pastels and florals are staples of this aesthetic as well.

Detailed layering pieces, like our ‘Kendra’ Crochet Knit Vest or ‘Kierra’ Cotton Sweater Top, are great ways to add a touch of softness to an outfit. Dresses in feminine cuts and pretty floral prints, such as the ‘Alicia’ Cotton Gauze Midi or the ‘Ivonne’ Floral Maxi for both women and girls, are another way to embrace this style.  Skirts with tiers, pretty colors, or a floral design, like the ‘Celine’ Ditsy floral skirt, are yet another way to incorporate this look into your closet. Fun footwear choices might include modern Mary Janes or flats with details like crocheted fabric or bows.

You can keep the sweetness of this style grounded by mixing it with casual, everyday elements like denim and other basics, such as a classic sneaker or a simple t-shirt.  Some additional examples of this aesthetic include items that are probably already in your closet, such as simple cardigans, floral skirts, and tiered dresses.

Western-inspired looks are another trend for this year. This style includes all-denim outfits, clothing crafted from suede or leather, fringed garments and accessories, and naturally, lots of jean skirts. Desert tones, pearl snaps, and kerchief prints are additional nods to this style.  Crocheted pieces and folksy florals are fun ways to soften the potential ruggedness of these looks. If you really want to go all in, you can choose distinctly Western-themed accessories like cowgirl boots, wide-brimmed hats, and a fringed leather vest or bag.

However, you can also play with this look in subtler, less overt ways. A piece like the ‘Shauna’ Smocked Waist Floral Maxi Skirt in rust or soft green paired with a simple neutral top and denim jacket would be a fun way to experiment with this trend, while still keeping it feminine. Of course, our classic denim skirts, especially those with an understated Western flair like the ‘Brooklyn’ Stretch Denim Maxi skirt in vintage wash, are perfect for this trend as well. Look for elements such as an A-line cut, distressed fabric, or fun details like brass buttons or a leather patch (see the ‘Brooke’ A-line Denim Midi Skirt). Button-down tops like the ‘Morgan’ or a sweet floral printed blouse like the ‘Lila’ and the matching floral kerchief are perfect pairings to round out a modest Western outfit.

Another popular trend is utility-style clothing, which features durable fabrics like khaki or twill and functional details such as cargo or carpenter-style pockets. Our ‘Jo’ Tencel Utility Midi Dress and the ‘Leigh’ Nylon Cargo skirt are two perfect examples of how this aesthetic can be worn in ways that are modest and feminine. The ‘Sonya’ Patch Pocket Denim Skirt also fits the bill for this trend. The practicality and durability of these pieces mean they can be worn now and for years to come!

The last fashion trend I’ll highlight is the return of workwear-inspired looks. Think all things classic and professional, but with a modern twist such as an oversized fit or some other bold design element.  Matching suit pieces, like a blazer with a skirt or pleated trousers, tailored dresses, button-down Oxford collar shirts, and vests are some ways that this trend will manifest in the mainstream fashion world.

Look for the return of classic prints like pinstripes and plaid, in deep shades like navy, charcoal, and burgundy. The ‘Spencer’ Dress and the ‘Eleanor’ Classic Herringbone Midi Dress are perfect examples of pieces you can purchase or may already own that embody this style. Another classic design in this vein is the ‘Anna’ Pencil Skirt . Add a simple blouse or longline cardigan like the ‘Porter’ for an outfit that is polished and pulled-together, yet comfortable.  These designs have simple, classic cuts with tailored details like darts, to ensure a fit that is modest, flattering, feminine and professional.

A final word of advice as you consider the fashion forecast highlighted in this post: you don’t have to try them all (or any of them, for that matter) unless you want to!

Whenever you are shopping a trend, consider some of these guiding questions.

  • Does this style align with my personal taste and preferences? In other words, do I genuinely like this?

  • How can I experiment with a new style in a way that coordinates well with what I already own? Can I picture wearing this multiple times and ways?

  • Lastly, what do I already have in my closet that could be restyled in a fun, fresh way?

It is possible to build a wardrobe that feels timeless, yet fresh.  There isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” formula for how to achieve this for every individual. But with time, care, and intention, you can find a blend of classic staple pieces and rotating seasonal accents, plus the occasional fresh addition or unique statement piece, that results in a series of outfits that you love and feel good in. Here at The Main Street Exchange, we will continue to provide beautiful, modest clothes that make this task easier as you seek to create balance in your wardrobe.
